Areas of special focus

A few areas on which I've spent most of my career and where I can offer particular depth.

Trauma

Survivors, families & caregivers

Painful experiences do not always stay in the past. They can keep showing up in your thoughts, your mood, your sleep or your relationships, long after the event itself. Through trauma-sensitive counselling and EMDR we give it a place, so it no longer decides how your days go.

Domestic & gender-based violence

Survivors, perpetrators & witnesses

Recovering after abuse takes safety, time, and dignity. With years of experience in women's shelters and recovery centres, I first help you create a sense of safety and stability. From that foundation, we work together towards healing, rebuilding your sense of self and rediscovering what is possible.

We map what brings you here and agree, together, your goals and where to begin.

  3. 3

    Ongoing work

Regular sessions at a pace that feels safe, in person in Nairobi or online.

How I work

Every person is different. These are the approaches I draw on, chosen to fit you, not the other way around.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing: an evidence-based therapy for processing traumatic memory.

Systemic therapy

Working with the relationships and patterns around a person, not only the individual.

Positive psychology

Building on the strengths, values and resources you already have and putting them to work in facing the challenges in front of you.

Cognitive behavioural therapy

Noticing the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour and gently loosening the patterns that keep you stuck.

Mindfulness

Simple, grounding practices that help you come back to the present and to your body, when things feel overwhelming.
